Job Description

Accountable for conversion of diagnoses and treatment procedures into codes using an international classification of diseases. Requires skill in the sequencing of diagnoses/procedures to optimize reimbursement, medical terminology, anatomy, and pathophisiology. Ensures that records are coded in an accurate and timely manner.
High school graduate or equivalent.
AHIMA credential of RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CCA required.
1 or more years of previous acute care hospital coding experience required.
Knowledge of diagnoses/procedures in accordance with ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 coding principles.
Strong knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy and physiology.
Ability to work with physicians in a collaborative manner.
Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
Additional languages preferred.
Requires People Skills and some computer skills.
